The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve David Vineyard was aged for 18 months in 30% new French barriques and comes in at 13.9% alcohol. In style, this is basically a replay of the lovely Merlot this report but with extra Cabernet Sauvignon power—and perhaps a bit more of those herbs. There's also cassis, though, and this focused wine drinks beautifully right now. The backbone here does mean that it will likely improve over the next year or two, even if it drinks pretty well now. The tannins are not hard. It's a nice value point in the lineup along with its Merlot sibling and the Méd Blend. Although they stand on more or less equal footing today, this is likely to age better than both of those, and it might even have a little upside potential. Of these three well-priced reds in this report, this would be my pick.
