A hidden gem in the portfolio of Rhône legend Alain Jaume/Domaine Grand Veneur, the 2020 Ventoux Les Gélinottes is a gorgeously fruit-driven red that you can drink now and year-round. It sails over the palate with a vibrant, spicy mélange of maraschino cherry, ripe plums, and Provençal herbs, cradled by soft, plush tannins. Thanks to the Ventoux region's cooler temperatures compared to the nearby southern Rhône, it offers lively and fresh aromatics and a bright supple expression of fruit more typical of the pricey Syrah-based wines of the northern Rhône. If you're looking for a great all-season house wine, planning a fall wedding, or hosting another gala event, this one's the ticket.
– Ben Giliberti, CW Director of Wine Education
The color is intense, with purplish reflections. The nose is based on an aromatic range varying from fresh fruit (raspberry) to black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry). The tasty mouth, overflowing with fruit, has good volume and very soft tannins.
