Although Seghesio Family Vineyards is best known for its benchmark Sonoma County Zinfandels, it also produces this delicate Vermentino from the estate-owned Keyhole Ranch Vineyard in the cool, northern reaches of the Russian River Valley. It opens with vibrant citrus and light floral notes on the bouquet. On the palate, flavors of honeysuckle, acacia, lemongrass, and Asian pear lead to a fresh, creamy finish. Excellent with steamed mussels, crab/lobster, mushroom risotto, light cheeses, burrata, and pasta with pesto.
La Cheeserie Pairing: Midnight Moon
Midnight Moon is a matured, gouda-style cheese produced in the Netherlands and sold under the Cypress Grove label. Aged for six months or more, this award-winning cheese is a blushing, ivory-colored goat cheese that’s nutty and brown buttery up front with a long caramel finish.
Vibrant citrus and delicate floral notes lead to a wine that is lively, persistent, and textured on the palate with notes of honey suckle, white lily, lemon grass, quince, and Asian pear. Steamed clams and mussels or oysters on the half shell would be a perfect pairing. Grilled halibut steaks, crab and English pea risotto, or pasta with pesto would be welcome too. If pairing with cheese, a fresh ricotta or burrata would be fantastic choices.
