South West France Merlot Wine ()

Former second fiddle to cabernet in Bordeaux blends has emerged as a major variety on its own. Though similar to cabernet in some ways, merlot is kinder and gentler than cabernet, with more cherry, plum and red fruit, and less herbal and severe. The structure is plump and lush; tannins are abundant, yet round. Many have the stuffing to age. Found in many "Right Bank" Bordeaux...Pomerol, St. Emilion, Fronsac; labeled merlot in California, Australia and elsewhere; blended with cabernet in Meritage wines.

Red Wine

Never content to rest on his laurels, Dominique has stepped up to the plate with this intriguing new red made from 100% Merlot. Aged for a year in new French oak barrels, Dominique's goal is to allow this wine the full expression of the Côte de Gascogne terroir. Deep in color, with a toasty bouquet of ripe fruit and plums, this wine offers a wealth of rich dark fruit flavors, with notes of damp forest, new earth, and Provençal herbs on the finish.
