The Viogniers of Rhône legend Alain Jaume, described by uber-critic Robert Parker as having the "Midas touch when it comes to white grapes," offer tremendous quality and value. The 2022 Grand Veneur Blanc de Viognier is yet another success. It opens with a fresh bouquet of sliced peaches, apricots, and enticing minerality. On the palate, plush Viognier varietal notes of honeysuckle, stone fruit, persimmon, and yellow apple are enlivened with fresh acidity. Delectable as an aperitif, it also matches well with a variety of seafood, such as jumbo shrimp, steamed lobster, and poached sea bass, as well as vegetarian dishes, light poultry, and light meats.
La Cheeserie Pairing: Ossau-Iraty
Said to be one of the first cheeses ever made in Europe, this Basque gem is made from sheep’s milk in the French Pyrénées. This semi-firm cheese has a slightly oily texture with a savory and sweet nutty flavor with hints of figs, hazelnuts, and olives.
