This 2.41-hectare vineyard sits atop the clay and limestone plateau in Saint-Philippe-d'Aiguilhe. It is planted at a density of 5,500 vines per hectare, with an average vine age of 37 years in 2018. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The wine will age for 12 months in 50% new and 50% one-year-old barrels and has 13.5% alcohol. Deep purple-black colored, the 2018 D'Aiguilhe Querre gives up exuberant notes of plum preserves, baked cherries and fruitcake with nuances of potpourri, mossy bark and a waft of cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with great intensity and is laden with spicy black fruit preserves, finishing chewy.
Lots of smoky dark fruits, chocolate, scorched earth, and subtle oak emerge from the 2018 Château D'Aiguilhe Querre, a rich, medium to full-bodied Merlot (there's 20% Cabernet Franc) with solid mid-palate depth, good overall balance, and outstanding length. It has lots to love but needs a year or two to integrate its oak and is going to drink nicely for a decade.
