Crafted by the brilliant enologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, Château Francs Magnus is one of Bordeaux's hidden gems. Made on the Right Bank, just a few miles from Pomerol and St.-Emilion, it offers a similarly plush and attractive style as wines from those famous appellations. The blend is roughly 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. With a score of 89-91 points from Vinous, it dishes out oodles of plummy blueberry/blackberry fruit, seasoned with polished notes of light vanilla and spice. Drink now and over the next two to four years.
Carlos’ Cheese Pairing: Tomme de Savoie
A semi-hard cow’s milk cheese from France's eastern region of Savoie in the Rhône-Alpes outside of Grenoble. Aged two to four months, it is made from the skimmed milk left over from butter making. It radiates a rustic, earthy simplicity with a lovely tang with notes of wet straw and dried fruit.
The 2019 Francs Magnus is plump, juicy and so inviting. Jammy dark cherry fruit, chocolate, licorice and spice all flesh out in this racy, voluptuous Bordeaux Supérieur. This is the first vintage made by Stéphane Derenoncout and his team.
