2009 Poggio San Polo - Rubio Montalcino
Varietal: Sangiovese | Location: Italy - Tuscany - Montalcino

WA 88
The 2009 Rubio bursts from the glass with layers of dark fruit that build with notable intensity. This plump, engaging wine is a huge overachiever in its price range. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. San Polo is in the midst of a huge turnaround since new owners Leonardo LoCascio and Marilisa Allegrini purchased the property in 2007. Consulting oenologist Riccardo Cotarella has been brought in to add his expertise. I tasted a number of unfinished wines during a recent visit that suggest the estate is quickly moving in a very positive direction. A Leonardo Lo Cascio Selection, Winebow, Montvale, NJ; tel.
