Although the fresh cedar and cassis notes of Cabernet Sauvignon dominate the nose, the interplay of flavors on the palate is like a "Where's Waldo" wine game, with one varietal flavor emerging at one instant, followed by another, and then another, all merging in a chorus of fruit flavors at the finish. Light to medium-bodied, and totally ready to drink now, this is a delightful wine with the distinctive and interesting flavor signature of its own — a fitting tribute to the field blends of old.
"The 2010 Lytton Springs (67% Zinfandel, 23% Petite Sirah, 7% Carignane and 3% Mataro) is fascinating because it seems to have handled the heat spikes far better than the Geyserville. This is first and foremost Lytton Springs, and a product of the 2010 vintage second. Firm tannins frame an expressive core of dark red cherries, flowers and sweet herbs. The inner perfume of Zinfandel resonates on the finish. The 2010 needs time to soften, but it is quite beautiful. Lytton Spring is a much larger site than Geyserville, the choices for lots are much greater, which affords the winemaking team a great deal of flexibility in crafting the final blends. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. 93+"
A blend of 98% Shiraz & 2% Viognier, this richly concentrated Barossa Shiraz is indicative of the style for which Australia's top production region is famous. The wine is dark in color, rich and dense. There are ample tannins balanced by the powerful fruit. You will note the hints of blackberries, mint, and eucalyptus flavors upfront and in the finish. Try Rubus Barossa Shiraz with rich dishes like lamb shank, Osso bucco, beef steak or roast duck.(from importer's website)
Although winemaker Brigitte Chevalier got her start with Bordeaux dynamo Jean-Luc Thunevin, her real life as a vintner began when she left Bordeaux to make what she describes as the “perfect wine” – one with big, bold fruit, smooth velvety tannins, and elegant complexity. With the 2010 Saint Martin d’Agel, made at her own Domaine de Cébène, located on the sunny hills of Faugères, she believes she has succeeded – at a very fair price. Made from a Rhone-style blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignane and Mourvèdre, this easy-drinking red offers soft ripe cherry and cassis fruit, heaped over the firm, tannic backbone of the excellent 2010 vintage. Drink now and over the next 2 to 3 years.
Ripeness and elegance are the two qualities that can best describe Ornellaia 2009. Born from a vintage which began cool then turned hot, it was necessary to take painstaking care during harvest in order to preserve the grapes’ crisp acidity and aromatic complexity. The wine’s fragrances are generous and cleanly-defined, with rich, well-ripened fruit, complemented by chocolate and balsamic notes of aromatic herbs. On the palate, silky-smooth and spacious, with glossy tannins. A lively, refreshing acidity lifts a lingering finish.
Produced by the esteemed house of Antinori in the southern Italian region of Puglia, on the "heel" of the Italian boot, Tormaresca Neprica is a juicy blend of Negroamaro, Primitivo, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are selected exclusively from Antinori's impeccably run Puglian estates, Masseria Maime at San Pietro Vernotico, and Bocca di Lupo at Minervino Murge. The Negroamaro and Primitivo, which are indigenous to Puglia, provide ripe, generous, spicy fruit; the Cabernet Sauvignon, which has Bordeaux origins, provides tannic snap and structure to tie it all together. Offering peppery, red and black raspberry fruit highlighted by light violet notes and hints of tobacco leaf and fresh herbs, the 2010 Neprica is a great match not only with traditional Italian dishes, but also with grilled poultry and beef, as well as with vegetarian dishes featuring porcini mushrooms, wild rice, or raisins.
The 2009 Treana Red exhibits rich aromas of red currant, plum and strawberry, with notes of coffee and spice. Concentrated flavors of ripe red cherry and boysenberry mingle with hints of anise seed, cocoa, pepper and earthiness on the mid-palate. Silky tannins and a round, velvety mouthfeel lead to a well-balanced, structured wine with a long, smooth finish.
