Winemaker Richard Cotarella, the champion of Italy's indigenous grape varieties, is the genius behind this path breaking Sicilian red, made from Sicily's native Nero d'Avola grape variety. Instead of bottling the young wine directly from the stainless steel fermentation tanks, Cotarella gave it four additional months of aging in French oak barrels. This added just the right touch of fresh violets and subtle roasted notes to the bouquet, while preserving the freshness of the young fruit. This succulent wine bursts with flavors of bright fruit and exotic spice, with notes of blackberry, ripe cherry and black pepper emerging on the smooth finish.
