2010 Château Gaudrelle - Vouvray Clos le Vigneau
Varietal: Chenin Blanc | Location: France - Loire Valley - Vouvray

When Spring arrives, a wine lover's fancy invariably turns to Vouvray, which counts itself among the most fragrant and refreshing white wines made anywhere in the world. The crisp acidity of the 2010 vintage is tailor-made for balancing the light, refreshing sweetness that is characteristic of this Chenin Blanc-based wine from France's Loire Valley. Château Gaudrelle is owned by Alexandre Monmousseau, a leader of the Loire's growing sec-tendre ("soft-dry") movement, a naturalistic philosophy that emphasizes fruit and balance over the excessive sweetness found in commercially-produced Vouvrays. The 2010 Château Gaudrelle is a true exponent of the sec-tendre philosophy, offering abundant apple, pear, and assorted white flower flavors, ideally balanced by the cheerful interplay of 2010's fresh acidity with a pleasant suggestion of round sweetness on the finish.

2003 Domaine des Baumard - Quarts de Chaume Loire Valley (375ml)
Varietal: Chenin Blanc | Location: France - Loire Valley - Quarts de Chaume

WS 96
This has a very powerful, concentrated core of almond, white peach, honeysuckle, mineral and candied lemon peel, but all is meshed perfectly together on a creamy, porcelain texture and glides effortlessly through the finish. Extremely long and finely detailed. A worthy rival to the slightly purer '02. Best from 2007 through 2030. 1,250 cases made.
Bottle:  $32.99
Case Price (24): $725.00
2005 Domaine des Baumard - Quarts de Chaume Loire Valley (375ml)

WA 92
A jaw dropper, with orange blossom, persimmon, fig and quince flavors that remain remarkably bright and light, thanks to the riveting acidity and a superfine, minerally finish. Pure and perfectly balanced, this refuses to break down in the mouth. The best since the monster 1995. Drink now through 2032. 1,200 cases made.

2009 Régis Cruchet - Vouvray Demi-Sec
Varietal: Chenin Blanc | Location: France - Loire Valley - Vouvray

WA 88
"The valley of the Loire River is the bargain garden of France" noted Robert Parker and we couldn't agree more. The central Loire is home to a wealth of outstanding wines from Chenin Blanc in nobly sweet versions, dry, and off-dry. Best known among the latter is Vouvray. Regis Cruchet's demi-sec Vouvray is one such source of value from the region. There is a generous yet delicate floral perfume on the nose immediately upon pouring with a spiced orchard fruits of pear and white peach with lanolin and a subtle bittersweet citrus character that combine on the palate for a polish that nicely integrates with a residual sugar level. Semi-sweet but beautifully balanced with a gentle level of acid that makes this a superb summer white. Very food friendly too, it pairs well with any spicy cuisine, Asian foods, couscous, poultry or pork loin with a tropical fruit salsa.
