2003 Chenin Blanc Wine

A serious grape miscast as a quaffing wine. Typically has flavors of honey, damp hay, grapefruit, and citrus. Sometimes floral and earthy. At its best, chenin blanc is loaded with tart, acidic astringency, a high degree of fruit extract, with a sweetish finish. More typically, an off dry quaffing white. Found in French Vouvray, Coteaux du Layon, Anjou, Touraine; California chenin blanc is usually off dry; some dry ones exist; Argentine ones show promise. Except in France, always labeled chenin blanc.

Varietal: Chenin Blanc | Location: France - Loire Valley - Quarts de Chaume

WS 96
This has a very powerful, concentrated core of almond, white peach, honeysuckle, mineral and candied lemon peel, but all is meshed perfectly together on a creamy, porcelain texture and glides effortlessly through the finish. Extremely long and finely detailed. A worthy rival to the slightly purer '02. Best from 2007 through 2030. 1,250 cases made.
Bottle:  $32.99
