 | | Although its fresh citrus/grapefruit notes recall a Sauvignon Blanc, this wine is actually made primarily from the indigenous and quite intriguing Verdejo grape, which has found a true home in the vineyards of the Rueda region of Castilla y Leon, located about 100 miles northwest of Madrid. Verdejo had disappeared almost entirely from the region until it was reintroduced in the 1970s, thanks to the advice of famed Bordeaux oenologist, Dr. ?mile Peynaud. The legendary professor was simply amazed by Verdejo's potential to make a distinctively fresh, floral, and full-bodied white wine without the use of wood. Vibrant and youthfully fruit-forward, this fresh as can be 2010 Verdejo bursts with fruit, and is a perfect summer white. |
