This wine comes from none other than Jean-Luc Thunevin, known as the "bad boy" of Bordeaux for his progressive, outside-the-box ways. We tasted this barrel sample after our beautiful lunch at his home. Bad Boy, now labeled "Mauvais Garcon" because of a copyright dispute, was superb. It has excellent concentration and balance, with blackberry and currant flavors. The tannins are soft and round, so this should be wonderful for near-term consumption.

This is one of our first arrivals from the highly regarded 2010 vintage, and if the delectable style of this modestly priced petite château is any indication, wine lovers are going to be arguing for decades over which is the greater vintage, 2010 or 2009. Made from a blend of 50% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 18% Cabernet Franc, this fruit-forward wine, from the northern part of the Entre Deux Mers appellation, is made by Jean Lobre and his two sons, whose family has owned Bellevue Rougier for four generations. Absolutely ready to drink now, this easy-drinking Bordeaux offers oodles of soft, spicy fruit, lightly seasoned by notes of red berries, Provençal herbs, and cedar. Although it has sufficient stuffing to match with main courses of meat or poultry, this wine is also delicious by itself or with light cheeses.

Denis Dubourdieu's Barsac cru has an attractive bouquet with subtle notes of cooking apple, pear and lime-flower, all with very fine delineation. The palate displays good weight and a fine thread of acidity, lending tension and poise that leads to a taut finish, showing good botrytis levels for the vintage. With its trademark minerality in place, this Doisy-Daene comes highly recommended.Denis Dubourdieu's Barsac cru has an attractive bouquet with subtle notes of cooking apple, pear and lime-flower, all with very fine delineation. This is the second white wine from Chateau Valandraud and famous "garagiste" Jean-Luc Thunevin. We also tasted this tropical white after our beautiful lunch at his home. With just a few hundred cases produced, this is rare stuff!

This white was a new discovery for us from one of Bordeaux's rebels, Jonathan Maltus. A classic blend of 40% Semillon, 40% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Muscadelle, it has incredibly concentrated, fresh flavors of white peach and honeysuckle with a touch of beeswax. Though the wine is made in 50% new and 50% one year old barrels, the oak is well-integrated and impeccably balanced. -- CW Wine Staff (April 2011)

There's less than 300 cases of this produced! This big, rich white is made by Jean-Luc Thunevin's wife Murielle Andraud, who is in charge of the whites at Valandraud, and we think this is her best ever. It's 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 35% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Gris. Wonderfully exotic with a nice, long finish.

Made by Jean-Luc Thunevin's wife Murielle Andraud, who is in charge of the whites at Valandraud, this crisp, clean white has lemony aromas and nice citrus flavors in the mouth. Made from 60% Semillon, 35% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Sauvignon Gris, there are just 500 cases produced of this lovely white.
