Description:
Made in Apulia, the so-called "heel" of the Italian boot, the 2010 Leone de Castris “Elo Veni” Negroamaro offers an almost Chianti-like elegance, lightness and finesse, which I found quite charming and captivating. Moreover, it is not what one normally expects from the Salice Salentino region, which is best known for its earthy, tarry, often raisiny red wines. Leone de Castris is one of the region's most respected producers, and has been exporting wine since the beginning of the 19th century. Made from 100% Negroamaro, the indigenous workhorse grape of the region, this 2010 offers round, delectably plummy fruit, highlighted by subtle notes of cloves, saffron, and cola bean. This will work well both as an aperitif, and with main courses of pasta, pizza, and beef braciole. |
