The 2009 Broquel Malbec spent 15 months in new French and American oak, truly unheard of for a $15 wine. It displays an enticing perfume of toasty oak (which is well-integrated on the palate), spice box, floral notes, earthy minerals, and assorted red and black fruits. Rich and spicy on the palate, it reveals enough structure to evolve for another 2-3 years. It will deliver prime drinking from 2012 to 2019. I suspect that not many readers are going to cellar a $15 wine, but for those who do, you will be rewarded. |
Intense purple red color with ruby hues. Aromas of black fruit jam and liqueur, with an elegant touch of smoke, vanilla and chocolate. Sweet attack and full bodied tannins. Long and pleasant finish. Food pairings: Ideal to combine with pasta and mushroom sauce, grilled red meats, stews and cheeses. |
