We were fortunate to secure a small quantity of the newly renamed, limited production "Grande Reserve," a premium level Cabernet produced at Château Lafite-Rothschild's very interesting Los Vascos property in Chile. Lafite's holdings are in a prized area of the Maipo Valley called Colchagua, considered the "Médoc" of Chile due to the very Bordeaux-like structure of its tannins. The 2009 "Grande Reserve" most definitely displays a Lafite-like personality of elegance and charm. A year of aging in new French oak provides an added dash of refinement.
