While many Bordeaux "second" wines seem to be moving toward a lighter, easier style that bears increasingly less resemblance to the first wine, Anthony Barton's La Reserve de Leoville Barton remains a true one-off of its majestic grand vin, Chateau Leoville Barton. Made from the same superb 2nd growth vineyards as Leoville, it captures a great deal of the sheer breed and stature of Leoville Barton but comes from younger vines and lots that don't quite pass Anthony's unbelievably rigorous selection for the grand vin.
