The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape is performing even better from bottle than it did last year. Composed of 47% Grenache, 38% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre, it is surprisingly soft and evolved for La Nerthe, but that actually gives the wine additional appeal. Its dense ruby/purple hue is followed by aromas of blue and black fruits, lavender, licorice, truffles and garrigue. Full-bodied, supple textured, fleshy and succulent, it will provide enjoyment over the next 10-15 years.

An absolutely stunning sleeper of the vintage, this blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc has produced an uncommonly rich, concentrated wine that is one of the very best wines of Fronsac. Opaque ruby/purple in color, the aromatics offer up notes of blueberry liqueur intermixed with kirsch, blackberries, licorice and crushed rock. The wine hits the palate with some serious thunder and lightning (14.5% natural alcohol) and lots of depth, richness and mouth-filling intensity. Consultant Stephane Derenoncourt has made the best wine I have ever tasted from La Rousselle, and it should continue to drink well for at least a decade. Read More

Clearly of classified growth quality, Lalande-Borie is produced by the winemaking team of "super second" Château Ducru Beaucaillou. Initially purchased to be incorporated into Ducru, its supple, graceful style was just too good to not warrant its own voice. The 2008 Lalande-Borie is deliciously perfumed with notes of wild violets, rose, red berry and a hint of Provençal herbs; on the palate, though not immense or intense, the flavors are nevertheless strikingly lush, deep, and refined. 14 months of aging in French oak barrels (1/3 new) provides a finishing polish of toasty vanilla oak.

This potential sleeper of the vintage has come around nicely now that it is in bottle. Elegant yet substantial, it exhibits a dense purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of black currants, cassis, cedarwood, herbs, toast and loamy soil undertones. Medium to full-bodied with sweet tannin (a component that was not evident from barrel), it should drink nicely for 15 or more years. This potential sleeper of the vintage has come around nicely now that it is in bottle. When we tasted the 2009 Langoa Barton with Lilian Barton at her office in St. Julien, we were expecting a well-made, delicious wine, but we couldn't have been more impressed! A blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, it was deep purple in the glass with aromas of blueberries, blackberries and a hint of vanilla and pepper. Although it had one of the highest tannin levels in the history of the estate, they were smooth and well-integrated already. It is one of the best Langoa's we've ever tasted from barrel.

We tasted this wine on the first morning of our trip -- at our very first appointment -- and this was one of our favorite wines. We even highlighted it in our first "Update from Bordeaux" that we e-mailed. We tasted it once or twice more and we knew as soon as this wine was released we'd buy it. Deep, dark, rich and elegant, this wine has lots of perfectly ripened fruit and a nice, long finish.

Lemon rind and mineral character. Full-bodied, with a strong acidity and a thick, rich palate. So structured it's almost tannic. Outstanding. Score range: 92-94

We tried this with our friends at Nathaniel Johnston a few years ago and fell in love with it! This 2010 has very complex, black-fruit flavors, especially given its modest price and appellation. It has excellent balance, with fine tannins and a hint of roasted coffee in the long finish. -- CW Wine Staff (April 2011)

Over the last twenty years, Montrose-s second wine, La Dame de Montrose has been an excellent buy. The 2009 La Dame de Montrose (almost all Merlot with a tiny bit of Cabernet Sauvignon) is a seductive, succulent effort revealing silky tannins, abundant blueberry and blackberry fruit notes intermixed with notions of damp earth, truffles and camphor, and an appealing, luscious personality. Enjoy it over the next 10-15 years.

This is a wine we've carried for years. We tasted it pretty much everywhere we went with consistent notes. It has a complex and highly perfumed nose, good extraction and nice ripeness. Has a long finish. Will age nicely.

"This is a positive, strong-flavoured wine, with loads of chunky fatness coming out of the S?millon and with the botrytis strongly apparent in the form of quite heavy glycerine. At 138 g/l residual, it is on a par with many others, but it has not been fermented out beyond 13?8, procuring a very fine honeyed texture and avoiding excess of power, so the result is gentle for such a flavourful wine. In addition, there is a good acid balance that stitches it all up nicely.
As at Fargues, this will be kept in barrel longer than others, so will certainly soften a little more during its ?levage. Quite clearly this ch'teau kept right on top of the botrytis."Bill Blatch

This classic Sonoma County Chardonnay displays bright aromas of lemon cream, mango and notes of toasted hazelnut. This wine has a subtle elegance with a lingering finish.
