 | | Fifteen years ago the Marnier Lapostolle family from France and the Rabat family from Chile began operations together at Casa Lapostolle. Today, the winery is wholly owned by the Marnier Lapostolle family and produces about 200,000 cases from 350 hectares of vineyards. With such a French heritage, it will be no surprise that Michel Rolland is the consulting oenologist and the head winemaker, Jacques Bergarie, made wine for Vieux Chateau Certan in Pomerol, Bordeaux. That the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon resembles fine Bordeaux wine, then, should also come as no surprise.
An intricately balanced blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah, 5% Carmenere and 2% Cabernet Franc and 7 months of oak aging give this $10 wine the extraordinary depth and rich, dark raspberry and black current flavors usually found only in much more expensive wines. Ruby red with purple shadows, the wine has a splendid perfume of smoky black cherries, soft red plums and vanilla. On the palate, you will find complex tones of dried fig and black spices, with soaring notes of cassis and scorched earth that go on forever in its lingering finish.
Give this wine the courtesy of an hour’s airing and you will find an astonishing wine that is suitable for the finest meats.
