We are proud to present to you the 2011 Chateau Pontet-Canet, now available for sale on a "futures" basis. We have a relatively small amount, so please act quickly if you're interested.
Pontet-Canet is a great chateau with a long history, garnering "Fifth Growth" status in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. That being said, the wines have improved tremendously in the last 15 years or so under the leadership of owner Alfred Tesseron. None other than wine critic Robert Parker praises Alfred and Pontet-Canet seemingly every year for producing wine of "First Growth" quality.
Of this 2011, Parker said, "Once again proprietor Alfred Tesseron has produced a wine of first-growth potential" and called it "One of the superstars of the vintage."
We were fortunate enough to have Alfred in DC on April 30th, leading us through an amazing wine dinner featuring the 2000-2009 vintages of Pontet-Canet. He is an incredibly gracious and passionate owner and he told us about all the work they've done in the vineyards, including becoming the first Grand Cru Classe in Bordeaux to produce its wine biodynamically. As you can see in the picture above, their vineyards are now partially plowed by horses to better protect the vineyard. "Everything starts in the vineyard" Alfred said, and the proof is in the wines he produces.
This is only the second 2011 we've purchased, but we've been keeping our eyes on every offer as they're released. We will continue keep you apprised of anything new and interesting as soon as we feel its warranted.
