"I hope readers will take a serious look at many of the less prestigious appellations and wines from those areas as they will no doubt represent fabulous bargains in 2009. Given the overall style of the 2009s, which combine creamy, voluptuous textures and sensational fruit-driven opulence with remarkable finesse, precision, purity, and vibrancy, the best of the 'little' wines will be delicious young, as will many of the classified-growths. This is a magical vintage!" -- Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (April 2010) |

| 2009 Château Beaulieu - Comtes de Tastes Bordeaux Supérieur |
 | We've carried this wine for years and it always delivers bang for the buck. This vintage it's an especially big wine for a Bordeaux Superieur. We found it to be sturdy with a good structure with dark, rich fruit, espresso, cocoa powder and sweet oak in the nose. The balance here is very good.
--CW Wine Staff (April 2010)
"A minerally and fruity wine, but subdued and balanced. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a long finish."

| 2009 Château Clarke - Listrac |
 | We've been carrying Chateau Clarke for years now but it wasn't until a few weeks ago that we finally got to visit. Wow, what a beautiful property! This Listrac chateau makes their wine like the top classified growths of Bordeaux and their hard work has paid off. The oak is apparent but well-integrated into this dark-purple, powerful wine. It's a well-balanced wine with bright fruit, great concentration and structure.

"Sweet berry and plums aromas follow through to a medium body, with juicy fruit and a long finish. Balanced and very pretty."

| 2009 Château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux - Moulis-en-Médoc |
 | Another hidden gem, we started with this property about 5 years ago and look forward to receiving this graceful and elegant 2009. It's supple and round but with good structure. Sweet, soft blackberry fruit in the mouth leads to silky tannins on the finish. It will be an attractive drink within four to six years.

| 2009 Château Le Doyenné - Premières Côtes de Bordeaux |
 | "Made from tiny yields of 18 hectoliters per hectare, this blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc (13.5% alcohol) offers scents of berry fruit, dusty, loamy soil, cedar, and spice box along with a tannic structure. The wine builds incrementally on the palate, and comes close to being outstanding with its purity and balanced, but intense, fruit. Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years. (Tasted two times.)"

| 2009 Château Teyssier - St.-Emilion |
 | "This is a big production cuvee of 15,000 cases from a vineyard whose terroir is not considered to be particularly good. Consequently, it is always fascinating to see how much character proprietor Jonathan Malthus is able to extract. The 2009 Teyssier possesses a dense ruby/purple color as well as smoky barbecue notes intermixed with creme de cassis, black cherries, and earth. Ripe, generous, and medium to full-bodied, it should drink beautifully young yet age for 10-12+ years. (Tasted once.)"

| 2009 Château Thieuley - Bordeaux Rouge |
 | "Two well-made generic Bordeaux are consistently fashioned by Thieuley. Readers who do not want any wood should buy the regular cuvee, but if you like a little oak, the Francis Courselle should be your choice. Both wines possess generous fruit, and lots of black cherry and black currant notes intermixed with herbs and spice. The Francis Courselle cuts a slightly bigger, oakier, more modern image on the palate, but both wines are well-made and reasonably priced. (Tasted once.)"

| 2009 Château Tour St. Bonnet - Médoc |
 | We've been carrying this wine for a number of years and it's one of our most popular petit chateaux. This 2009 has enticing aromas of cassis and red berries with good length and balance in the mouth. There are lush, sweet tannins on the finish. A nice, earthy Medoc style that reminds us of the 2005. Tasted multiple times during our trip.
--CW Wine Staff (April 2010)
"This has been one of the most reliable wines in Bordeaux over the last 30+ years, and I have enjoyed many vintages of it. It sells for a song, and the 2009 may turn out to be the best they have ever made. This inky purple-colored wine offers up notes of creme de cassis, spring flowers, and forest floor that seem to have more in common with a classified growth than a petite chateau. Medium-bodied, luscious, and rich, this is a beauty to drink over the next 10 years. (Tasted two times.)"
